This week on Jersey XYZ, Stathis Theodoropoulos has a conversation with Patricia Teffenhart, Executive Director of NJ Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and Sarah Bear, Community Engagement Specialist at the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault. We have a deep and thought provoking conversation on sexual violence, sexual misconduct, the #MeToo movement, and how New Jersey handles these issues.

We start the conversation with a talk on how the #MeToo movement started, and what the movement has meant for victims. The conversation leads us to chatting about institutional/systemic abuse, and how we deal with those instances as a society. And also insights on if there will be a backlash to the #MeToo movement.

Patricia and Sarah then share their thoughts about how #MeToo can become a movement as opposed to being a moment. We have a great chat on the rape culture in the country and how to have thoughtful conversations about these issues with friends and family.

We end the episode talking about the important work that NJ Coalition Against Sexual Assault does. We hear about what legislation they are looking to get passed, and what Gov Phil Murphy’s Administration can do on these issues. We also chat about what we can do in our state’s education system to address all these issues from a young age.
